TANK GIRL

Earlier this year, I joined a group called the Badass Teachers. I'm not a teacher, but since my husband is, I was eligible. Basically, the BATs are activists who fight against thinks like excessive standardized testing,  the Common Core Standards, the privatization of public education and other things. Recently, someone posted a Politico article to the BATs Facebook page in which the BATs were called a "militant splinter group."

I just took that quote and ran with it. In the Tank Girl movie from the 1990s, Tank Girl is fighting the corporate takeover of the water supply. In my piece here, Tank Girl is helping to fight the corporate takeover of the public schools. She is holding a pen, which is mightier than the sword. She's covered up   to adhere to dress codes, but she's still pushing it with the cut-offs, even though they are long.

The above was created with a Sharpie pen on paper (wow, imagine that! Paper! Pens!)  I then scanned it and colored it in Photoshop and combined it with a scan of looseleaf paper. This was quite fun.

The drawing, pre-Photoshop.
